Zambia

I've never seen a Zambia shirt for sale on line, so I have my brother's friend Al to thank for this one. I believe that he works for the Lusaka Times, and had some difficulty tracking down a shirt for me. I've never been to Zambia, but I have seen one of their greatest ever footballers play when Robert Earnshaw played for Cardiff against Posh in the basement division. In fact I saw him score against Posh last week for Nottingham Forest.

Ooo look, they write "Zambia" on the back:

Wales

 Wales vs Czech Republic friendly

Another shirt that I have received through a generous member of londonroad.net. Dan is a life long Posh and Hereford fan, the 09/10 season may well see 2 relegations and his country fail to qualify for the World Cup again. At least he doesn't have that silly accent.

Wales - 3rd - 2002

Dan assures me that Wales only wore this shirt once, and he was there to witness the 0-0 draw at home to the Czech Republic. Presumably the only shirt that Wales have never conceded a goal in.

Thanks Dan, I owe you a beer or three.

Serbia and Montenegro - ex-FIFA

Formerly Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montegro qualified for the World Cup at its first and only attempt in 2006.

Serbia and Montenegro - Away - 06/07

Since Serbia & Montenegro now play as Serbia, and Montenegro, they are not part of FIFA's 208 nations. It cost me £9.96 in total.

Greece

Greece shocked the footballing world by winning Euro 2004 despite being placed 150-1 outsiders. However they have struggled since losing all their games in Euro 2008, and failing to qualify for the 2006 World Cup. They did however beat Ukraine in the play offs for the 2010 World Cup.

Australia

Since Qualification for the 2006 World Cup, and Australia's move to the AFC the sport has grown substantially. Traditionally Australia have had a fairly low ranking due to the lack of games and weak opponents in the OFC region, but they have now moved up and cemented their position in the top 20.

Togo

Togo were one of eight teams for home Germany 2006 was their first Finals, although they are yet to win a point. The Togolese team had threatened to pull out due to their federation not paying them bonuses, in the federation were fined for "behaviour unworthy of a participant in the World Cup."

Recently Puma have started to supply many of the African nations, including lesser nations such as Madagascar, Namibia and Central African Republic. Some of these can be seen in their Africa range.

Canada

Surprisingly Canada have only qualified for the World Cup Finals once in Mexico 1986, recently they have finished behind nations such as Costa Rica, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago and Honduras. They did beat the USA and Mexico's domination of the Gold Cup in 2000 to win their first international honour since 1904 when they won Gold medal at the Olympics, although I'm not sure that should count since only 3 teams entered, and two of them were the USA.

Trinidad and Tobago

Dwight Yorke is possibly the second most famous sportsman to come out of Trinidad & Tobago after cricketing legend Brian Lara. Dwight Yorke is lucky enough to be able to say that he's played alongside Kettering legend Andre Boucaud when Trinidad & Tobago qualified for the 2006 World Cup.

This shirt was the second most popular shirt sold in Scotland during the World Cup in 2006 (after England). This was due to TnT being in England's group, and Jason Scotland who played for Swansea at the time. I can't name my source because I don't have one, i might have made all that up.

USA

Regular readers of this blog will know home much I love my classic shirts. Look at it, it's beautiful, even if it is American.

USA - Away - 90/91

I paid slightly more than I should have done for a USA shirt, if I'm going to avoid breaking the bank I need to ensure I get the cheapest possible shirt from each country. When I run out of new shirts I can think about spending a bit more for nicer shirts.

Bulgaria

The first World Cup Finals that I properly followed was USA '94. My brother had just come back from a tour of Europe with the Panini sticker album, and we both chose to follow Ireland (or at least he told me to). After they were knocked out we followed Brazil since they were the best team in the world, and when you are 9 years old winning is everything, which is why everyone at my school in Cambridgeshire supported Blackburn Rovers. Amazingly Bulgaria made it to the Semi-Finals, eventually being knocked out by Italy, they then lost to Sweden in the 3rd place play-offs, Henrik Larsson had the coolest hairstyle in the Panini sticker album, almost as cool as the ginger guy from the USA.

Another shirt which I wouldn't pay full whack for. It cost me £2.79 with a ridiculous £4.50 postage. Not entirely sure why it was sent recorded delivery.

Czech Republic

This country didn't exist when I was growing up, I remember when I was 7 years old having to do a project ona European nation and I was given Czechoslovakia. I wrote to the Czechoslovakian embassy and they gave me a leaflet. True story.

I bought this shirt from Phil who runs oldfootballshirts.com, and amazing website which is attempting to create an online history of every club and country's football shirts. It's a fantastic website, well worth a look.

Another South American shirt, I'm now 40% of the way through the CONMEBOL region!

To be honest, I'm not too impressed with this shirt. It's a very light material and I would be very disapointed if I've paid the full £40 for this. It is an authentic shirt since it passes all of the Puma checks.

Singapore

I recently banned myself from purchasing shirts from eastern Asia to avoiding fake shirts. Unfortunately there are people in the UK who buy these 'bargain' shirts and sell them on for profit, some not even realising that these shirts are not authentic.

The listing for this Singapore shirt certainly appeared to be authentic, and from a seller with 100% feedback. When the shirt arrived it had all the correct labels, and the tag still had the original $70 price tag attached.
